Corporate management of MiraMon.par

MiraMon has a general configuration tool encapsulated in a file named MiraMon.par which is located in the working directory of the program (which is assigned through the Windows tools to assign the properties of each program or through the parameter "/DT=" from the command line) or in the MiraMon directory; this file is accessible from "Help|Configure parameters" of the MM32 menu.

Until version 7, the use of this file has been sufficient for individual users and for corporations that defined a common profile for all its users. However, the fact that MiraMon is used in larger organizations and with a greater diversity of users, now it is necessary to offer the possibility of customized configurations (profiles) in the same corporate environment.

If a MiraMon license is not integrated into an organization in which several users share the program and its configuration is available (such as a public administration, a company or a university), this section is probably not interesting for you.

The motivation of the optional qualification of MiraMon parameters configuration in a corporative way is due to the need to use MiraMon in a centralized way, that is, a need to be able to configure in a unified way the MiraMon parameters. As it has been said, until now, to configure MiraMon, MiraMon.par file had to be configured, which is placed locally on the computer of the user, even if the executable that was being used was placed on a server. The reasons for a centralized configuration can be diverse. For example, if a group of users has larger screens it is necessary to be able to change the specification of the dimensions of the screen quickly and easily (not having to go to each MiraMon.par of each user) by editing a single file for the group and so everyone will see with total precision the scale of the maps indicated on their screens. In the same way, other examples are being able to change the variable that allows to maintain vectors in memory if a group of users reads the files remotely through a network of low speed because they are in another building, configure the MiraMon menu so that they appear more or less options according to the user (reader/complete), etc.

From the point of view of the user, the new operation of the corporate MiraMon.par follows the next rules:

• When oppening MiraMon, it will be checked if in the command line has been instructed to use a specific MiraMon.par . If so, this will be used. Otherwise, the MiraMon.par of the MiraMon correspondent executable directory will be used as a reference.
• When oppening the MiraMon.par it will read in it if it is necessary to follow a corporate configuration scheme (distributed), or if the configuration of that MiraMon.par (typical case in individual users, and whenever it is not necessary to define different profiles for different users) is used. In the second case, none of the following points does not apply.
• In case that MiraMon.par indicates that it is necessary to follow a corporate scheme will be detected which user has logged in in the computer.
• It will be verified that this user is in the list of users that has the corporative MiraMon.par.
• In case the user is in the group with corporative MiraMon.par MiraMon will start with its specific configuration.
• Otherwise, the user will be informed that it is not within the corporative MiraMon.par and should contact the system administrator. Even so, the user can continue with a default configuration by the administrators. MiraMon will write in a specific file the name of this user so that the administrators can know the existence of users in any group or profile.

From a more technical point of view, the presence of the key "cfg_corporativa=" in a MiraMon.par file indicates that it is necessary to apply the rules and lists of groups, etc. This information is collected in DBF tables with the names of the users and group to which they belong and different MiraMon.par files that can be of general parameters of the whole institution, of parameters of a certain group and even of parameters of a certain user (naturally, the latter will only exist in the case of users with special needs, not collected in their own group). Note that, as it has been said, each user can have even specified which menu options should be visible.
