For more extensive import possibilities, it is also possible to use via GDAL/OGR from MiraMon; information about importing vector layers can be found at https://gdal.org/en/stable/drivers/vector/netcdf.html, and about importing raster layers at https://gdal.org/en/stable/drivers/raster/netcdf.html.
A quick way to explore the content of a NetCDF file is to drag it directly onto MiraMon, or open it from "File | Open raster | Open raster via GDAL/OGR" or from "File | Open vector | Open vector via GDAL/OGR". Once the layer or layers are on-screen, queries can be made by location and attributes, symbolize, etc. If, once the content has been explored, it is decided that it is appropriate to import data into MiraMon formats, the desired raster cells or vector entities (or all the elements of the layer with the "Select all" button) must be selected and saved with the "Save as" button in the object selection box, or use this application (interactively or on the command line) GDALMM, located at "File | Import | Files via GDAL/OGR".
NetCDF stands for Network Common Data Form and is a format commonly used by meteorologists. Its great flexibility and adaptability make it suitable for various types of data: point observations, time series, satellite or radar images, etc. For more information on the specifications of the NetCDF format, please connect to: https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/.
The first version of the MiraMon import was programmed in 2001 and, as mentioned, it does not implement all the different possibilities of the format and will only be expanded if users require it (the request can be sent to contacte@miramon.uab.cat) since, as mentioned, the import via GDAL/OGR offers other complementary options.
All the numerical and alphanumeric fields identified in the original format are gathered into the database of the generated points file. If there exist time series for these fields, that is, if there exist for the same location values of a variable at different points in time, a multiple record will be created which contains the different values as different records for the same graphical entity.
